Did you know that anti-perspirant deodorants are classified as an over-the-counter drug? This is because the active ingredient that prevents the sweat glands from perspiring is in fact a synthetic drug that contains aluminium (Al). Unfortunately, aluminium is a known neurotoxin that can have harmful long-term effects, and should be avoided wherever possible. Studies have linked aluminium with auto-immune diseases, Alzheimher’s, and even DNA damage. While the industry science insists that there is no need to be concerned, many studies have shown otherwise. According to a review from 2013, it was concluded that:
“… given that the toxicity of Al (Aluminium) has been widely recognized and that it is not a physiological component in human tissues, reducing the concentration of this metal in antiperspirants is a matter of urgency.”
A more recent review from 2021, concluded the following:
“… it is widely accepted that Al is a recognized neurotoxin, and that it could cause cognitive deficiency and dementia when it enters the brain and may have various adverse effects on the Central Nervous System.”
As most people have been using deodorants with aluminium and other toxins for many years, and even decades, on a daily basis, specific chiropractic care also helps to remove these toxins from the brain, by improving the lymphatic drainage. Fortunately, there are many natural alternatives, even home-made options, that are less likely to increase your toxic load and keep you smelling fresh and functioning well.
